September Wrap-Up

Um yeah this is super late and I read a total of one (1) book...
I have a lot of fanfics to rec tho at the end? :D
Sorry I have nothing to say here except I had finals this month which took up a lot of my energy... and then I spent the rest of the month doing absolutely nothing in preparation for more school.
But yeah I did read some fics during my downtimes! Fics are absolute serotonin boosts and they're fun and easy to get through so I default to them when I'm tired :")

Summary

Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to this old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?

Rating: ★★★★+(.75) (4.75/5)

I have heard nothing but raving reviews for this book and I'm very, very glad to say that I definitely believe this book deserves all the hype that it gets. This book was just so fun and addicting. I read it for a buddy read so I was trying to drag it out as much as possible, but then I found myself reading in 100 page chunks and I finished well before I was supposed to.

I really loved the characters they were all well-fleshed out and I found myself fond of all of them despite their extremely dubious morals.

fanfic recs no one asked for

(but i'll provide anyway because they're fun to gush about)

the quiet tenacity of tsukishima kei by radians

"Tetsurou's crush is six years old and it smells like summer"

We are going back to my roots! But seriously KuroTsuki is a huge comfort ship they were my #1 since when I was in high school and seeing content of them always makes me feel really warm and fuzzy and happy. I feel like I haven't read a krtsk in a very long time and I really liked this one. It was all very subtle and very atmospheric. I also really loved Tsukishima's characterization. I definitely do believe that he would be the type of person who intentionally fills his schedule to the brim because he doesn't know what to do with his free time. Also as a tkkg stan, the tkkg best friends? Loved that. I also believe that tkkg would become amazing friends in the future I love them so much. I love all the nice things his old teammates said about Tsukishima because they would. They love Tsukishima :") honestly, the fact that Tsukishima went pro is something that I will never get over.

As the biggest Kenma stan around, I really loved the small Kenma insert. And that scene...honestly the entire article just screams Kuroo is in love and I loved it. I think in a world full of lots of Tsukishima pining for Kuroo this is just what we krtsk stans needed.

rest on your laurels by bluu

"there's no winter in California, nor Argentina."

This is kinda a deviation from my Kageyama Tobio All Day Every Day reads because this one's IwaOi and of course the one iwaoi fic I read after a long time of no iwaoi is going to be an angsty one. This one left me feeling quite sad and melancholic. It was written beautifully and I also couldn't help but imagine Iwaizumi living in this world and staying in one of those apartments near UCI that I often drive by when in the area. Also the beach. I lowkey imagine them going to Crystal Cove because it's relatively emptier than the big beaches like Santa Monica LOL.

Highly recommend this if you're looking for an angsty read. Also, highly recommend listening to the playlist provided in the author's notes because it is a top tier playlist I loved it.

greek tragedy by ineedmygirl

All my recs are deviations from the reality that is Never Ending Kageyama Tobio Loving Hours but this one is because I read this back when Haikyuu!! was ending and I never mentioned it but someone mentioned it and I skimmed it again real quick because I really like this one. It's a KuroTsuki PJO AU and I love krtsk and I love PJO and this fic was just really great. I loved the friendships between everyone in the camp, especially Tsukishima's friendships with Oikawa and Tendou. My heart just felt so warm from them and their unlikely friendship. And Suga, Akaashi, Suna, Daishou, and Tsukishima all children of Athena? And Kenma son of Hypnos is an idea I've never thought of and now I love how fitting it is :") Anyways, this fic is really fun and I loved it so much.

double take by moonweaver

"In the space of a breath, it's like you're experiencing that sight for the very first time."

I'm back on the rare pair agenda. With a rare pair I've never consumed content for, but honestly I have been converted. I actually haven't read a completed, multi-chapter fic in what feels like a really long time. Probably since like August? But this one is a really cute AkaTsukki fic and it's full of so much yearning. Akaashi and Tsukishima are both absolute favorites of mine and their romance in this was so sweet. I also really loved the appearances of the rest of the 3rd gym squad as well as Kenma! 3rd gym squad still being friends years in the future has my heart so, so warm.

they break up in the spring by akanemnida

"Or: How Kei and Tobio get back together."

I'm gonna be honest here but when it comes to TsukiKage I am so so weak to angst. So yes they get back together in this fic as it says in the summary. I really loved this, I'm surprised that I didn't put it in any of my earlier wrap ups because this is actually a re-read. I really like TsukiKage's dynamic and this captured it perfectly. I also am a huge softie when it comes to them, so the even though they've broken up they still yearn for each other concept is one I love with my entire heart. Thank you ao3 user akanemnida I love you and all of your fics.

always running (back to you) by ineedmygirl

"Five times Kuroo let Tsukishima walk away (and the one time he didn't)"

Going back to my roots: KuroTsuki. Falling back in love with KuroTsuki is the best feeling in the world; comfort ship doesn't even begin to explain my attachment to them. Anyways this was a ride. Lots of angst, lots of longing and yearning and it's just really really good. The writing is amazing and I really liked the choice of scenarios? Like that doesn't even make sense but I just think the reasons Kuroo let Tsukishima go were so good. Every single time. Kuroo is so good.

And I'm going to leave it here. Because it's already more than halfway through October and I unfortunately have nothing to offer except for school readings :( But I do hope to read more when I have time.

The only book I can promise I'll finish by the end of the year is Brothersong by TJ Klune only because I've been waiting to read that since forever and I need to know what happens to Carter and of course my faves Robbie and Kelly.

But I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe during these (unfortunately STILL) pandemic times!
